  簡介 Descriptions :
  高8.6米、重達70噸的魚尾獅塑像是已故新加坡著名工匠林浪新(Lim Nang Seng)先生用混凝土製作的。作為新加坡旅遊局 (STB) 標誌的魚尾獅首次亮相於1964年。這個矗立於浪尖的獅頭魚身像很快就變成了新加坡的象徵。

  魚尾獅是由當時的 Van Kleef 水族館館長，Fraser Brunner 先生所設計的。魚尾獅的獅頭代表了 (馬來紀年) 記裡所記載：於公園11世紀，三佛齊王國的聖尼羅烏達瑪王子在這座小島所看見的一頭神奇野獸，後來他才知道那是頭獅子。就此，王子就將這座小島命名為“Singapura”。“Singapura”在梵文里的意思是獅子 (Singa) 城 (pura)。魚尾則象徵了在王子發現小島前的古城淡馬錫 (Temasek)，並代表新加坡是由一個小漁村發展起來。
