  • The success of the London International Inspiration program 2012s as it announces the twentieth Country program for Egypt

    London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announced that London is the legacy of 2012s groundbreaking program of the International Inspiration, his promise to reach 12 million children in 20 countries around the world.

    announcement came as Egypt was named the 20th and final country to join the International Inspiration, which promised to enrich the lives of children and young people around the world by increasing access to high quality and inclusive physical education, sports and games. International Inspiration has reached 12 million children in the program year ahead of schedule in July 2011. Following the recent launch in Ghana, Ethiopia and Tanzania, the program will begin work in its 20th country, Egypt.

    announcement was made on the sport and education conference in Cairo organized by the British Council, one of the organizations that provide assistance for the implementation of the program – with the participation of the International Inspiration Ambassador Baroness Grey Thompson, one of the UKs most Paralympians.

    Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Al Motaz Sonbol, chairman of the Paralympic Committee, Dr. Ashraf, and senior representatives of the National Sports Council. Egypts major universities and the Egyptian Ministry of Education also attended the conference, which gave the senior figures in sport and education in Egypt as a forum for discussion of two years, the country of the International Plan of inspiration.

    Baroness Grey Thompson, II, Ambassador said: Sport is a powerful tool to attract young people and allow them to direct their energies in a positive way. International Inspiration will give young people in Egypt, access to the sport that I grew up, what inspired me to achieve in my life that I’m proud of that, including my Paralympic gold medals.

    International Inspiration, delivered by the British Council, UNICEF and UK Sport, brings to life the promise of the London 2012 bid team, in which they pledged to reach young people around the world and connect them to the inspiring power of games to choose they inspired sport.

    International Inspiration will now focus on ensuring that sustainable initiatives, and will leave a lasting legacy for all twenty countries after the last year of the program in 2014.

International Inspiration is supported and funded by a mixture of organizations and foundations, including the Department for International Development (DFID), British Council, Premier League, UNICEF, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Comic Relief, Laureus Sport for Good, GE Foundation and individual donors.     International Inspiration has been developed as a result of commitments made by a team of London bid in Singapore in 2005 to reach young people around the world and connect them to the inspiring force of the game that they have inspired to choose sport.

    LOCOG has seven domestic partners of the first level – Adidas, BMW, BP, British Airways, BT, EDF and Lloyds TSB. There are seven local second-level supporters of Adecco, ArcelorMittal, Cadbury, Cisco, Deloitte, Thomas Cook and UPS. There are currently 28 domestic level three suppliers and providers of Aggreko, Airwave, Atkins, Boston Consulting Group, CBS Outdoor, Crystal CG, Eurostar, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, G4S, GSK, Gymnova, Heathrow Airport, Heineken UK, Holiday Inn, John Lewis, McCann Worldgroup, Mondo, Nature Valley, Next, Nielsen, Populous, Rapiscan Systems, Rio Tinto, Technogym, Thames Water, Ticketmaster, Trebor, and Westfield.

    There is one domestic Tier One Paralympic Games, the sole partner, Sainsburys and an inner layer 3 Paralympic Games only a supplier, Otto Bock. London 2012 Paralympic Games, also acknowledges the support of the National Lottery.
