Every year my mom buys an ornament from Hallmark that represents our family. Last year she bought a ballerina since I won 1st place in my dance competition. The year before that it was a piano since my little brother started taking piano lessons.
Another tradition is that every Christmas our whole family goes to my grandmother’s house to eat dinner. I just love spending time with my family and opening gifts.
eggnog at Xmas is a must!
the hallmark ice buddies ornaments!
my dad says they’re a must!
well, as an asian in an all asian family I never really know much about these traditions.
but,,, every year we take the year’s pictures and get out/buy some new/cheap picture frames to hang around the house, the smiles on the pictures always light up the house:D
Howeveer, my first statement is not suggesing that asians do not celebrate Christmas and know traditions about it…
eggnog for thanksgiving and christmas every year…NEVER FAILS!!!
Every year my family have a mass snowball fight! ( Last year it was a water fight due to the lack of snow ). I look forward to that every year and love hitting my uncle Kenny with big ones!
Also my mum makes my whole family ( They all come over to my house! ) vegetable soup.
YUM YUM
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL GOODNIGHT!
Every Year My Family comes to my mother’s house where we all spend the Cristmas together making food such as Pies,Tamales,Fried Chiken, Puddin. We gather mainly for Family time cooking rather than waiting for present’s. Once all the children are a sleep the Adults chatt, Teens talk about school and stuff. in the end we just enjoy the time we spend together and wait patiently for next year
A new ornament for the Christmas tree that reflects the past year in some way, is traditional.
oyster stuffing
well for thanksgiving….
fish, green bean casserole, turkey, ham, and all the general stuff.
Christmas… to put in stockings: vienna sausage, an orange, gum
to eat: hmmmm…. pie basically!!! nothing too big!!!
One thing we do at christmas is we circulate who will be santa each year. Santa in our family is the person that passes out the presents to whoever they feel should get their present at that time… we go from youngest to oldest so this year I am santa next year will be my brother then my sister then my dad and then my mom.
It’s always fun!!! we always read a christmas carol. it’s tradition for the kids to wake up at 6 and wait for about 3 hours til the parents get up to open presents
Every year the day after Thanksgiving we watch Elf and the How the Grinch Stole Christmas together as a family. Each year we all get to pick out a new ornament for the tree and generally we try to pick something that reflects the past year. For example, my brother got married, so he chose an ornament shaped like two wedding rings. We also buy Christmas scented candles (Christmas Tree, Cinnamon, Winter, etc) and light them around the house to make the house feel Holiday ready.
Every year my family adopts a pet project. It can be -buying- clothes for needy people we know or contributing money to a child’s education in another country. For the most part , the “traditional” stuff we buy is similar to above and is not something we would get at retail shops, such as Target.
Although we do have regular gifts as well for each other, they are not our main focus, nor are they our tradition.
We like making brownies, green bean casserole, and corn casserole.
We always bake or buy the best holiday cookies and place them in the cookie dish on the table….mmmm
Even though it is just me, my mom and my son now…. I buy the biggest Turkey I can find for Thanksgiving and the Biggest Tree that fits in our house for Christmas. I also get my son 1 ornament each year and I label it. He is 5 and loves looking at his previous ones.
When I was young we had tons of family around and everything was just Big and Traditional, so I want to pass that feeling onto my son.
We wait until we are all together to put the Angel on the Christmas tree.. and every year my mom makes ” Wassle” which is like apple cider with cinnamon sticks and some other stuff inside.
my family and i always have dinner at my grandparents house in kesgrave . But recently my great grandma became ill so my granparents moved in with her and we had christmas dinner with her last year and will also this year
x
We always buy our tree the weekend after thanksgiving. Usually we get a gingerbread house and decorate it.
My family always makes red chile tamales, I’m talking tons and tons of dozens of tamales. That’s how I know it’s Christmas time, the tamales usually last from X-Mas to New Years. Blehhh….then it’s diet time. hehe
I used to make calendars for people because of my artistic skills and knowledge of dates and such. Also, I made themed CD’s for my sister because she would do the same for me every birthday and Christmas before I got my iPod. (She still makes CD’s for my father.) However, my laptop has a things with CD’s and DVD’s and I haven’t set my printer up to print calendars from MS Excel. So I don’t know what I’m going to do, really.
My wife and I don’t spend much time with many relatives during holidays. We are mostly together alone and here’s what we have handy:
1. Things to make sugar free cookies with for me! (sugar free Hershey chocolate chips…) I can’t eat much sugar – I had weight loss surgery.
2. Candles (but nothing corny)
3. Movies (Original “Grinch” “Christmas Vacation” “Wizard Of Oz” and tv shows that have christmas episodes).
4. Jiffy pop with butter
5. Music (Elvis, Carpenters, Michael Jackson)
6. Stocking stuffers for the cats.
7. Baking a ham and stuffing with clams
8. Personal lubricant for more hot fun with my honey!
9. Wispride port wine cheese spread and butter pretzels
10. Champagne and bloody marys
11. Collect Elvis ornaments and Fancy Feast ornaments.
And YES we enjoy shopping at Target.
We always make it a tradition NOT to watch that stupid yule log on tv or watch that goonie Peter Billingsley in that dull ‘Christmas Carol’ movie! (Sorry, but that’s just us). And we DON’T have that NASTY eggnog and fruit cake. Disgusting. ‘Tis the season to get nauseous.
This year we are sending out home made XMas cards of us at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon posing inside a huge shark’s jaws.
every year we get a brand new pair of pajamas for the night before christmas! is is really fun to see which ones everyone got and we get to look cute in the christmas morning video and pictures of us opening our santa presents
Since 1999 I have been collecting the Pet Smart ornaments.I am a cat lover and have the whole
collection.Plus a percentage of the sales go to the rescue groups which I am a member.
Eggnog, a real tree and real wreaths.
My oldest sister hosts christmas as her house is the biggest now and because they alternate holiday hosting. With that , she gets a hostess token gift in serving a meal with that, etc. I started giving her hb a host gift of a rudolph the red nose reindeer memorabilia once I found out he liked that as a christmas classic story that time of year.( my sister doesn’t work out of the home so he’s the one buying the food, etc.) He seems enthused when he gets an item from that.
It’s like an unofficial collection of items to display from that in this every year when I go there I’ve seen. LOL I started to try to bake some snack to bring, usually home made cookies with my daughter. She is into baking and she can do a better job than I can at this as I prefer cooking more.
we watch movies:
how the grinch stole christmas (both)
elf
a christmas story – i dont like this movie but i watch it with my family anyway
home alone (1 and 2)
& more
I went to target for their Black Friday sale. I was looking for 3 items listed as door busters. I was there early……they didn’t have any of them. But we were told there would be 2 trucks in that night. and they would have the items. So….next morning we were there when the door opened. There were very few people there that early. Guess what….they still did not have the items.
I went to Wal-Mart. They had everything listed in their sale paper.
My new holiday tradition will be to leave Target out of my plans.
Being that I am out of work this year, I guess I’ll have to start a new tradition. No lights, no tree, no presents, no nothing!
A framed cartoon for my wife.
Flannel pajamas for my husband and my 2 boys are a must every Christmas. After we decorate the tree we make little ornaments out of glitter and glue. Draw a star or tree or anything with Elmers glue on wax paper, cover in glitter and after it dries you can peel it off and hang it on the tree. My little boys get a kick out of this.
*feel free to put flannel pajamas and glitter on sale!*
Candy Cane!!!
We make a gingerbread house every year while drinking hot cocoa and dancing to christmas music in our pajama’s!
I put up party streamers that are called garland streamers they make it look like it’s snowing indoors
I also take our old christmas cards a put them up around the front door. everyone that I know loves
this effect I always go all out for christmas.oh and we always buy a butter cream christmas cakes with all our
kids & grand-kids names on it.
I add a new handmade terracotta sculpture to my nativity scene
Rich and Creamy Hot Chocolate from William Sonoma and hand made marshmallows.
I make my own Christmas tree ornaments, and attach one to each person’s gift. It’s decorative, and it’s something they can use year after year.
I have a tradition of doing all my shopping at WALMART
Every year we have a grab bag on Thanksgiving. Each adult picks the name of another adult in the family and each couple picks the name of a child. Every Sunday from then until Christmas we get together at a different house for dinner and then give our secret family member a gag gift after (clown neck tie, sour lollipops, etc). On Christmas day, we reveal ourselves as the secret Santa and give each other real Christmas presents. It’s a lot of fun and it keeps the family together. Some of my best gag gifts have come from Target’s dollar section.
1. Midnight Mass
2. There is an AM radio station that plays Christmas Music 24 hours a day and I try to tune that in whenever we are listening to the radio. ( I think It varies depending on where you are in the country/North America)
3. Baking Cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve
4. The Yule Log
5. Christmas Cards
6. Mailing santa Claus His letters.
7. Toys for Tots

Every Christmas everyone in the house gets a new ornament that reflects their interests. My son will get new flannel pajamas to open on christmas eve. We go to candelight service every christmas eve and then get together for Chinese food at my grandmothers. When me and my son go home we bake cookies for Santa and every December I make batches and batches of coquito.
My husband and I were married 17 years and 17 days when our son was born. He was 7 months old for his first Christmas. I purchased a Christmas plush and have every year since. I now have a collection of 26 and place them all over the house. Living room around the tree, on the sofas, bedrooms and even in the bathrooms.
I have Teddy Bears, Santas, a big Christmas Mouse, Mr. & Mrs Moose, Penguins, Gingerbread Boy and Girl that are scented. The family is always anxious to see what I will add each year.
My niece has a new baby boy and I have purchased one for her to start her tradition.
we have so many holiday Traditions. Every year my husband and I make ginger bread houses with my younger siblings then we display them on around the house! 8 ginger bread houses in one house. HOW FUN! All the women in my family (mom, sisters, cousins and aunts) get together and make ornaments. Each year a different kind. Some other fun Traditions are decorating the tree getting together christmas eve and christmas day with all my family.
i never shop at Target.
the AP team knows my face too well LOL
Mince Pies and hot chocolate with my friends.
try a christmas tree!
Every year I make 3 kinds of quick breads to give to friends and co-workers. I also make huge trays of bread and homemade cookies and candies for hubby’s airmen.
With no family near us, family becomes those around us. So our house is open every Christmas to anyone who is spending Christmas alone in the dorms.
MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY ALL GOES TO MY SISTERS & WE THINK ABOUT OUR BEAUTIFUL FATHER ! A TIME FOR REMEMBRANCE LOVED ONES & REMINISCE ALL THE GOOD THINGS WE HAD AT ONE TIME & THE GOOD IN THE FUTURE, TO HELL WITH GIFTS, ITS REALLY FOR CHILDREN CHRISTMAS BUT WE GIVE GIFTS IN ONE ANOTHER OUTTA TRADITION !!
Moonshine!!!!!
Every year, my aunt has a cookie decorating party. We use a recipe that my great-grandmother used; all the adults do the baking and mixing the icing, and all the kids get to decorate with icing and sprinkles. We save the best-looking ones to wrap in plastic and hang on a wrought-iron cookie tree that my great-grandfather made. This tradition has been in our family for… oh, I don’t know… at least five generations. It’s always a lot of fun!
